Experience Mercer County: Big Charm in a Small Community

Welcome to Mercer County, Illinois, also known as MerCo! From unique shopping finds and local festivals to river adventures and our wide variety of eats, there’s always something to do.

Shop Local Treasures

If shopping is your thing, you’ll love what MerCo has in store. Hunt for quirky finds at Odd Betties, browse the little boutique in downtown Aledo, The Alley Marketplace, or step into Sales From the Krypt for antiques and new-to-you finds.

Each stop has its own personality, and you never know what you’ll walk away with.

Celebrate All Year Long

There’s a reason people keep coming back to our events. They’re full of tradition, fun for all ages, and have plenty of food.

Buy a pie (or a few) at the Aledo Rhubarb Festival! This Aledo event has become a tradition for locals and those traveling from far away at the start of June. Moving towards August, and to the west end, you can grab your plate at the New Boston Fish & Chicken Fry. If you’re ready for a bit more adrenaline mixed with a fair, don’t miss out on the New Windsor Rodeo, the biggest little rodeo in the Midwest.

And when fall rolls around in October? The Ride 17 Music Festival brings live music to the heart of MerCo, while the Sherrard Pumpkin Festival adds all those classic autumn vibes. And that’s just the start, our calendar is packed with reasons to visit.

You can find monthly local events on our calendar!

Get Outdoors

MerCo is a place to play outside. Paddle on the waters of the Lake of Matherville and Port Lousia on a kayak while it’s warm and sunny, or keep your eyes peeled for eagles soaring overhead in December. Thrill-seekers can feel the speed at Mercer County Motorsports or cheer on the racers at Viola Boyz Backroad Speedway. Whether you’re after relaxation or adrenaline, we’ve got a spot for you.

Eats and Drinks

Try two Aledo favorites, Toblala and Miguel’s, grab a bite at The Office in Sherrard, or enjoy Matherville's The Paddock.

Want to take in river views with your meal? Rocky’s Sturgeon Bay has you covered in New Boston, or Bid’s Bar & Grill in Keithsburg.

And that’s just scratching the surface. No matter where you land, you’ll find food that hits the spot. You can a full list of places to eat on our Food & Drink page.

Looking for a fun way to enjoy some caffeine? Take a look at our MerCo Coffee Shop Hop! There you’ll find our variety of stops, from mobile locations to brick-and-mortar.
